Hungarian veto thwarts worldwide cooperation
The Hungarian government led by Viktor Orbán prevented worldwide cooperation. The 42nd Joint Parliamentary Assembly of the African, Caribbean, Pacific (ACP) and the EU, which lasted three days, ended in Maputo, Mozambique.
Crisis management at the Joint Parliamentary Assembly
The assembly debated and sought common solutions to global crises such as climate change, pandemics, terrorism, poverty and human rights.
According to a statement obtained by hvg.hu eurologist, the assembly will be remembered for the Orbán government. A widespread call was made for the Hungarian government to finally lift its veto on the approval of the post-Cotonou ACP-EU agreement.
This agreement is a strategic pact between the EU and the 79 countries concerned. It would replace the previous 20-year agreement with a new one, which would be valid again for two decades. The previous treaty expired and was provisionally extended.

Hungarian veto
The Hungarian government has not approved the proposal because they believe it would increase migration. The essence of the convention is that it includes cooperation in a very wide range of areas, which are vital to keeping relations on the necessary track.
The signatories to the convention undertake to fight illegal immigration and to readmit their own citizens. Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said a year ago that “the agreement with Africa should not be for Africans to come to Europe, but for Africans to stay in Africa.”
In the absence of an agreement, the ACP is being postponed further and further, rtl.hu reports. The co-chair of the recently concluded assembly, Socialist MEP Carlos Zorrinho, said: “Multilateralism between equals is the only concrete way forward in these dark times when nationalism, war and mistrust seem to reign on the international scene. The ACP-EU JPA is a beacon that must be preserved and strengthened. It is time for the Orban government to lift its veto and give this crucial Assembly the opportunity to move forward.”
Viktor Orbán and the Hungarian government have not commented on the case.

Hungary and Prime Minister Orban is the only leader with “guts”. No EU country wants uneducated young African men invading its territory, e,g, rescue ship with 1,000 migrants stuck at sea.
Hungary’s population goes down every single year and these racist idiots cannot fathom the idea of African-Hungarians coming in and creating a beautiful unique group of Hungarians and helping avoid that demographic catastrophe. Sometimes I’m ashamed to me Magyar.
As Grégoire de Fournas, a member of Mrs. Le Pen’s National Rally (close with our Politicians shouted in the French National Assembly: “retourne en Afrique” – go home to Africa. Xenophobia is unhelpful. As a percentage, there are as many educated people of colour as there are among Caucasians. Many have vocational training – try finding a good builder, plumber, electrician, etc. in Hungary. We are running out of them, since many are working abroad!
Also, there’s the question regarding asylum seekers. There may be very legitimate reasons for them to come to Europe (“living like a refugee” is not a joke – your entire life packed into the bag you carry, facing danger, challenges and insecurity. That’s why there are NGO’s supporting them).
Lastly @zadorandy there’s the issue of an aging population. Without workers, consumers, taxpayers – how are we going to cope? Curious as to your solution @mariavontheresa
Hungary just keeps GLOBALLY being witnessed, under the leadership of Victor Orban, his DEVASTATION and the erosion disappearance – the RESPECT – for the brand name Hungary GLOBALLY, continuing to disintegrate.
Is the Government of Hungary – through insurmountable growing pressures PREDOMINENTLY around the collapse zone that Hungary’s – it’s Economic & Financial factual situation is in, and worsening – is this Victor Orban led “Dictatorial” government of Hungary – IMPLODING???
Who besides Russia & China – under dictatorial governments – who are Hungary’s FRIENDS???
Fortunately, there is still time. The application of the Cotonou agreement is extended until 30 June 2023 – https://international-partnerships.ec.europa.eu/policies/european-development-policy/acp-eu-partnership_en .
For all the “No EU country wants” talk, Hungary is the only country to cast a veto. Without any comment.
Every nation has the right to determine who lived in its territory. No one EU country has shown successful integration of migrants from 2010. Some cultures just cannot assimilate, hence no-go zones. Hungary is doing the right thing for her people.
